Who's Going To Win 2002 F1?
I hear what you are saying Bob but after so many seasons where Ferrari flattered to decieve or were ruined by infighting I'm enjoying their resurgence while it lasts
Despite the F2002's strong showing to date I feel this season will not be as foregone conclusion as the last, I firmly believe that Mclaren will be back on form with far fewer techincal errors than last years debacle, there is a damn good reason why this years car was unveiled so early and I'm willing to bet its got a lot to do with that Mercedes V10 in the back
I'm going to watch the Montoya/Williams package with great interest this year, the sport needs that latin passion in it, dour Finn's and ultra professional drivers like DC and MS need a counterpoint - at least the Irv and Jenson know how to live a little too!

From that viewpoint I can empathize...yes there were many seasons of underachievement at the Scuderia that have been put straight by the inspiration of Schumacher and the very crack team of Todt, Brawn et al....it took several years between Michael's tenure at Benneton and 2000"s ultimate success at Ferrari to achieve it but achieve it they did, credit to all of them.
I guess one principal in which I believe is with today's severely limited rules the teams that change the least between successful years have the biggest potential to succeed. McLaren has a large change in bringing on Raikkonen and I am not exactly sure DC provides the type of inspirational leadership to the team that Mika did. Same with Ron Dennis, he never criticized Mika and has at times been critical of Coulthard. I think to get back up to Williams and Ferrari McLaren needs more than just better engines (which I am sure Norbert Haug is providing).
I actually hope Button shows some form with the Renault this year, I think he underestimated his need to knuckle down after his Cinderella rookie year at Williams. As for Irv the Swerve, he continues to waste Ford's money at a frightening rate.....Lauda should be ashamed, but after all he and Eddie are quite the party buddies.

According to the Motorsports Preview: Formula One article in the February 18, 2002 issue of AutoWeek Magazine (p. 17):
ODDS/DRIVER/TEAM/COMMENT
Even/Michael Schumacher/Ferrari/We see no reason for him not to repeat
2:1/Juan Montoya/Williams/He'll give Michael a run
3:1/Ralf Schumacher/Williams/Second-best of the rest
5:1/David Coulthard/McLaren/Best of the rest
7:1/Rubens Barrichello/Ferrari/Stuck in a team where he's clearly No. 2
8:1/Kimi Raikkonen/McLaren/Too new to make a real impact
10:1/Jacques Villeneuve/BAR/It's now or never for a big improvement
15:1/Nick Heidfeld/Sauber/Quick driver in improving team
20:1/Olivier Panis/BAR/It's time for him to shine
30:1/Giancarlo Fisichella/Jordan/Needs more power from his Honda

just think if traction control had remained banned - what 2001 would have actually been like!
Schumi would have done his crazy sideways starts - DC certainly would have got more points earlier in the season and put pressure on Michael. Maybe it would not have changed the overall picture - but it would have continued past race 13.
Mclaren probably have the biggest backing in Mercedes of any of the teams - though I thought the engine actually comes from Illmor in UK? so don't believe Dennis will settle for 2nd best 3 times in a row.

Drivers
1 - Micheal Schumacher
2 - Rubens Barrichello - I don't think anyone gives him the credit that he deserves
3/4 - close between Ralf Schumacher or Juan Pablo Montoya
I think DC is going to disappoint this year, Raikkonen will emerge. Unfortunately Villeneuve is on the wrong team, although I do hope Honda gets the chassis/aerodynamics better this year.
Constructors
1 - Ferrari
2 - William/BMW
3 - McLaren Mercedes

[B]I'll throw the first "other" into the ring: Schumi, DC, then either Ralf or JPM. Probably Ralf.
