Yea I figure. I"ll be gutting the whole rear section and hopefully come up with a somewhat elegant solution to cover everything back up in the rear. My M3 had a pretty clean setup from the M3 GTS, but my friend can get something custom yet simple fabricated for the S2000. It's more of a matter of how much I want to spend to get it done. Would be nice to get the rear speakers mounted somewhere as well.
Very nice! My motivation for reinstalling the rear plastics is reducing noise. You sure aren't saving much weight removing them, but having them in certainly cuts down on noise (they also have some sound insulation attached on the backside). There was one person that custom fabbed some pieces to replace the stock hollhoop plastics, but he kept the bulkhead bar and didn't run harnesses. The issue with the placement of the oem belts is they could interfere with harnesses. Ultimately if someone spent some time I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to come up with a half decent solution. Heck, I'm sure if someone cared enough, welding parts of the "bulkhead" (that contain the mounting holes for the center console and some plastics) to the rollbar or bulkhead replacement bar is probably doable.

Personally I don't think you need/want rear speakers. Just get an amp for the front speakers.
reinstalling the rear plastics is definitely a MUST for as street driven s2k, from both an aesthetic & comfort standpoint.

also, ditto on skipping the rear speakers. it takes some doing to have a proper front & rear speaker setup in the s2k. unless you plan on gutting the soft top and just running a hardtop, it's not worth the trouble or expense. having rear speakers in a topdown s2k won't sound very good. just use some quality components up front and a clean amp w/enough juice to power them. my basic system sounds pretty good, but opted to stick w/stock speaker placements. moving the tweeters to the A-pillars would be better.

as for the Mugen bar, I'm not sure if they have an 06+ version. I don't think the older versions will fit, due to the passenger floorboard being different. i bought a used one from HMO Parts a while back but canceled the order before I could find out because i had second thoughts about my passengers (gf) losing seat adjustment. quick research told me that you lose 1-2 clicks of reclinability, due to the floor mounted braces. it's too bad i chickened out. got a killer deal... $800 WITH the rear deck garnish and bar padding!

The soft top is definitely going to be removed. I plan to cover the rear area with sound deadening material and having my friend fabricate some simple, yet elegant covering in the back so it doesn't look so horrible.

interested in seeing and hearing your sound system when it's completed. rear speakers should be more worthwhile if you're going hardtop fulltime.

most quality installers & shops advise people to forgo them for topdown s2ks. speakers behind the seats, as most do, are pretty pointless and horrible, sonically. my friend is an awardwinning installer at one of the top shops around. his boss was pretty disappointed i just wanted a basic system, but i bought my S for topdown driving. i was going to go with rear speakers too, but he told me not to bother. they've done several other local s2ks, but i won't violate their privacy and broadcast their setups.

Not to go off on a tangent discussing car audio, but yep rear speakers just mess up the sound stage (music is 2 channels). I get that some people like them for "fill," but in such a small car like the S you're better off with just getting some good quality components and giving them enough powa.

Got my car back today! I have tomorrow (Thursday) to get my car all back together including clear bra and alignment for my track day on Friday. Going to be a busy day. I also had a new pair of seats dropped onto my lap tonight. Bride seats will be for sale soon.

I love all of the aftermarket parts that have already received upgrades, haha.
