MemphiS2k's DBW J35 Build Thread
Finally pulled the trigger and picked up a J35A8 out of a 2008 Acura RL from my local Pull-a-Part for $250. The RL came with the same engine as the 07-08 Acura TL Type-S, but with a more aggressive cam profile. This is also a desireable selection since it's the only J-series engine that is Flashpro compatible.
As far as I'm aware, I will be the first s2k to have this swap with Flashpro and also DBW since my s2k is MY07 and the RL was as well.
This thread is a bit of a placeholder for now since progress will be slow at first. The plan is to tear down the engine and rebuild for 8k rpm over the next year. I plan to do the swap when I park her for next winter.
The car as she sits. Currently parked for winter.
I'm trying to stay fairly low key so I'll be keeping as much stock exhaust as possible, and I've had my rear wheels cut and widened to 10.5" to fit some more rubber.
And here's the J35a8:

Pulled the heads today, and starting bagging and tagging everything. The cylinder walls are in phenomenal condition. I'll probably just tear the block down, have it bath cleaned, and fine hone the cylinders before reassembly with the new rods and pistons.

Spent some time this weekend tearing down the heads. Supertech stuff has been ordered. Hope to drop the heads off for cleaning this week, and maybe reassemble next weekend. I also managed to drip enough oil out of the pan to send to Blackstone. Shouldn't be a super accurate test since the tell you not to use the first or last oil out of the engine, but I'm curious if it throws any major red flags. Everything I tear down is in really great condition other that the normal discoloration. There is no sludge or buildup anywhere. Pretty good for 165k miles. I assume it might have been rebuilt at some point given that I can still see light crosshatching on the cylinder walls.
