Since you're doing all of this work, I suggest seem welding your A-arm control bracket mounts so that they don't tear (if you haven't already done so). If you're pushing your car hard enough to destroy bushings and motor mounts, you're pushing it enough to rip out the spot weld. Clean it up, seem weld it, and have it re-coated.

Already in the works, actually. This was on my to-do list while the suspension was completely off the car. I planned on stripping the coating around the mounts with a wire wheel, laying a bead down along the edge of the pick up points, and re-sealing them with undercoating. The car has 130,000 miles now, 70,000 of those miles put on by myself, so it's definitely something that needed to be done. They hadn't started separating yet, but I have a close friend who lost his car back in 05 because of this kind of failure due to autocrossing the car with Hoosier A6s. Thanks for the heads up!
Oh s**t... I autocross my car with Hoosier A6s...

My friend ran his car competitively on A6s from 2003-2005 until the accident happened in late 2005 I believe. He was coming out of a meet taking a left out of a parking lot when all of a suddent his right front suspension failed and he wrapped the car around a tree. He was doing just above parking lot speeds when it happened, which is the most frightening part. I'd rather not be a statistic, so I plan on fixing the problem before it occurs, as you should too Andy.

I'll definitely do this now. Thanks for the heads up Bullwings/Ricky. Be interesting to see if there's already some signs of fatigue. I've autox'd for four years, two of them on A6's.

It only applies to AP1s. The AP2 chassis addressed this by seem welding the brackets.

Yeah, I read through the thread you posted. I have a MY00 so this affects me.

Looking good Ricky, glad it's coming back together. Text me in advance when you're gonna hit the bushing install. If I'm free I'll lend a hand. SInce you're having the fender painted anyway...have you considered flairing them both finally? Allow you run 265's up there?!?!

Thanks man, much appreciated. I'm going to be burning out the bushings tonight (the suspension is already completely apart) and pressing out whatever needs to be pressed out tomorrow. I need to tap the zerk fitting into the control arms this week, and prepare the inner surfaces for the bushings. In the meantime the mounts will come in, so I may end up installing them this weekend, along with re-fitting the control arms. I'll give you a heads up if we stay on schedule so you and some other friends can come by the shop and put this thing together, and drink some brews.

I received the bushings in the mail today, and assembled them, and took inventory. I've removed the control arms and will start prepping them tonight. Not looking forward to burning out the old bushings. =/

It sucks balls. Its as bad as you think it is.....but worse.

Get a wire brush for your drill, once you get most of the center bushing out heat up the rubber and 'hone' the interior with the wire brush until its nice and shiny. Oh and a propane torch even the high temps ones don't work for shit.

Best of luck, it is worth it at the end
