***SCCA Discussion Thread 07 Season***

Yeah, Edison, I watched you throw away your last two runs by nicking the same cone on the back slalom!
I took it so slowly around the back sweeper, I didn't even come close to needing 3rd gear. I'm not very good at faster autocross courses. I should come out to SCCA more often to get more practice.

man that course was pretty fun. i think my best official was a 63.xx with one cone and i got it down to a 61.8 in the fun runs. that back sweeper was a kick though i was almost at red line 2nd gear. anyway see you guys next week!

It wasn't a good day to be in a RWD car on race tires. Great course and conditions for drifting, which was hard not to do with the turbo Miata spinning up the rears so easily. The car's a natural drifter, quite fun. I think a larger front sway bar would have given me more confidence in those conditions. But Candlestick is pretty abnormal right now.
When I was taking pictures of the afternoon groups it did look like there was more grip and less gravel, at least in the start and finish areas. The tight last couple of turns before the finish lights were clearly a lot easier in the afternoon.
John, it's too bad Rick hasn't been driving the '99 Sport much lately. The stock MSM suspension is better than I expected and it'd be interesting to see how it could stack up with the '99s. We need a Buetzer or Telehowski out here. The gearing on the MSM is awful, but at least it willingly goes into 3rd gear unlike almost every other Miata I've driven.
My cone-mauling run was a very sideways adventure... I didn't hold back, and the gravel threw me way off line when I got a wheel in it (twice). Oh well. Oakland is next, it should be much better!

My car came with the hardtop, Stephen. I always wanted one for my fuure S2k so it was a bonus that mine already had one installed. Haven't brought the HT to autox events much because I like to race with the top down. Other than that it stays on practically 24/7.
John, I finally got a chance to watch your videos. Slapstick comedy is right! Did you manage to stay clean on the DNF? Looked like you might've had room to just sneak through. That was quite the sudden spin, too.
I'm hoping to have video from the nose of the MSM soon. I had some very different lines in places.
