Default 14K miles and no engine...

I'm sad to say that my S2000 is getting a power transplant. I haven't been able to talk to a mechanic yet so I don't know the details of what happened. But, this past Tuesday, my S2000 had to be loaded on a flatbed truck and taken in for some major work. I was doing town driving at the time accelerating from 1st to 2nd at around six to seven thousand RPMs...then a loud POP! engine dies and car rolls to a stop.

I've driven the car pretty hard up in the Santa Cruz mountains, but have not had any previous problems other than the headers being re-adjusted during one of my oil changes (which isn't supposed to be done until like 110k miles). Dealership was surprisingly willing to help, and an engine was shipped in a few days. I'll hopefully have it back in time for Christmas.

I will post to the thread when I have more info. Has anyone else heard of similar engine mishaps under 'normal' driving circumstances?

Do you mean you got a valve adjustment? There isn't anything to adjust on the header. Did you check the oil level recently?

can you post more details? And yes, did you check the oil regularly? It is being covered under warranty? I want to go to your dealership! Hope you get your s2000 back soon...

My car is at Steven's Creek Honda, Santa Clara. The engine came in yesterday, and it should be done by tomorrow.

The details of the incident indicate that the piston moved up to fast for the valve and it shattered. Interestingly enough, the RPMs were not high when this incident happened.

Like most of you, I baby the car when it comes to maintenance. It has had four oil changes and never anything less than 91 octane.

No doubt that I do drive it hard though. That's why I got it in the first place!

Honda corporate uses the loose sparc plug story, but it's clear that is not what happened here.

It's pretty clear given the timing that the engine was not shipped from Togichi, but it is new.
