Try to get a result that doesn't come out to a multiple of 9. Then notice that all multiples of 9 have the same symbol.

The trick is to make you think you are making a choice. The formula makes your result come out to be a multiple of 9. All multiples of 9 have the same symbol. The answer is always the symbol next to 9.

You always get the symbol next to '9' on the chart. And all multiples of 9 have the same symbol. The equation makes sure you get a multiple of 9.
