Default Drinking and Driving... The Suck...

Just wanted to write and give a heads up to what many of us would normally consider a no big deal when in fact, IS. IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU... Last Friday my 2 friends (names shall remain hush) and I decided to eat over here in the East Bay before heading down to the Milipitas meet. After 15mins of choosing where to go we decided to go Korean since it's normally quick and soju seemed like the thing to do. We sat down ordered a hot pot, a beef dish, and then maybe 2 bottles of Hite (beer) and 1 soju. It was 7 when we sat down and 9 when we left. We paid the bill got in the car and made our way out. We were making a right from MLK to West Grand on what we recalled as a yellow light. But a pair of red and blue lamps thought otherwise and we quickly pulled over and turned off the motor. The officer came around and asked for license and insurance then asked whether we knew we had made a right in a RED? I was in the passenger seat at the time and my boy said, "No officer I thought it was a yellow". The officer went back to his car and comes back again. He asks... whether we'd been drinking? I seriously could not recall what was said but the officer asked if my boy could step out of the car? By now another officer with a flashlight comes over to my side and has his light on me and my other friend in the back. My boy T is now doing the follow the finger test and another patrol car stops behind us. Long story short, my boy was tested having 0.09 from the breath testing machine, we sat for what appeared to be a 30min wait when a tow truck came to impound the car. One officer asked my backseat friend and I if we had a ride home? Neither of us could think who to call so we decided to all go downtown where my friend ultimately spent the night. My brother ultimately came down to give me a lift. I think it was 2am by now. Meanwhile my friend was released and is now seeking an attorney specializing in DUIs. Bros, it could happen to you as it happened to my friend. So please be careful.

Just found out the car needs to stay in the pound for like a month??? At the end of this whole ordeal I think he's looking at $10K minimum!

Sorry to hear what happened. My girlfriend was hit by a drunk driver a couple years back (hit and run). She was in a truck with her friends, sideswiped at an intersection. Luckily they were all fine, to drinking and driving.

wantone,

sorry to hear it bro. Sucks, i always tell people not to drink and drive, even if its one drink, it could be enuf to make the man's day and ruin your year. Your friend is gonna be in for a world of hurt, lawyers fees (few grand), court fines, (few grand), JAIL (at least 48 hrs), community service (probably 80-120 hours), probation (1-3 years), no license for half a year, car insurance is gonna double or triple, and don't forget DUI class (30 hours, over 1/2 year or something)......

By no means am I condoning drinking and driving it's just that we've all met up once or twice at Don's house or a restaurant meet and honestly I don't think any of the members here I've ever seen drunk! But what freaking surprised me is that 1. what we had was NO where near the type of drinking we did at Don's, and 2. we were like 2 blocks away from the restaurant. Again I'm not saying we should be left off the hook or whatever but DAMN!

Wow. Tested at 0.09.

I don't see why the car has to sit at the impound for 30 days though.
