When mine did this I assumed it was the ballast because of the on, then flickering. It turned out to be the bulb.

This is a common problem, I would say bad ballast or bulb, swap each one out one at a time and you will know.
If i find it is the ballast, is there a quick fix that i can do if i dont have the $150 or so to spend on an oem ballast? What I mean is that can i use regular non hid bulbs for a while?

you cannot use those cheap generic ballast on the oem lights without some modifications. I know these headlights inside out in my sleep and it's not worth the extra effort to make it work to save money.

The OEM HID bulbs are 9006 so technically you could try to fish another system in those oem holes but I wouldn't risk it. But either way your bumper has and headlight has to come out for the repair. Just buy one on Ebay if u are trying to save money.

lol 9006, you sure know your stuff

It turned out to just be the bulb. Thanks for everyone's input. I really appreciate it.
