Default might be moving to SF

I may be moving to SF in a few months and I was wondering if you guys could give me an idea of where to look for apartments. I will be working in the city and would love to live in the city but I wouldn't mind a 30 minute commute. Any ideas? I am assuming that traffic is bad.
Thanks

Your best bet is to live in the city and use public transportation or walk to work, commuting sucks here with the traffic.

Where in the city do you plan on working? Getting across town could take just as long as commuting in from outside the city.

If you plan on commuting into the city, commute from the Peninsula (south) rather than from the east (oakland) or the north (marin).

unless you don't mind taking public transportation, then the east bay with bart is fine (and usually relatively fast). probably better than driving into the city from the peninsula.

my old commute was Hercules to San Mateo.

morning traffic wasn't too bad, but hated driving through SF during baseball season.

San Mateo, Redwood City, San Burno, Daly City or anywhere around the San Mateo County should be good. You can hop on 280 on the way and home from the City and it won't be as bad as driving 101 home. Try looking for an apartment on Apartments.com. It'll be nice to live in the City but it's such a hassle since the city is very tight and parking in the street isn't a good idea. And apartment that has parking garage are a grip. So living in the San Mateo county is what I would suggest. You can get a nice apartment with gated parking for a pretty good price. It's only about 20 or less miles from the city depend on what city you live in the San Mateo county. Daly City are only 5 miles from the city

How much do you want to spend on rent?

Bart is good although it can get a little crowded on the way home. I liked being able to read and not having to drive. I worked south of market and rode Bart from Pleasanton in 42 mins.

You could probably find an apartment w/garage in Dublin/Pleasanton for around 1,300 (my friend just did). As long as you don't mind leaving your car at Bart all day. You'd also want to plan on catching Bart before 8:30 while there are still parking spots...
