If I am not mistaken, when the iphone first came out - it too was buggy to begin with. Hoping RIM puts out some good updates soon.
Yes, kinetic scrolling is not on the Storm; hoping it will be though.
I like the clicking feature of the screen as it helps avoid false-positive inputs. You can highlight by hovering over the key & execute by pressing in the screen. It's not perfect right now - which again might improve with updates.
For my use, the Storm is better than an iPhone as it can integrate with an Exchange Server/BES better & has support for VPN & other corporate infrastructure protocols/applications.
The iPhone does not integrate well with Exchange & screws up calendaring on the user's mailbox. For a corporate user, I would recommend the Storm over the iPhone. For a general user, not integrating with an Exchange Server/BES; I would recommend the iPhone.

no wifi is a shame... but whatever..
firmware updates always help...
and yes, let's not forget everything the iphone was lacking - and some that it's still lacking - when it first came out
every first version has issues... that's the norm

The lack of wifi doesnt bother me since the 3G network is fast & available almost everywhere. You need to get an unlimited data plan to use the phone anyhow, so might as well maximize your investment in the plan.
If you want to get on your network, then use a VPN application. The cool thing is that you can tether the phone to your laptop on the go - not sure if the iPhone supports this feature.

The new Samsung Omnia is suppesed to be really good. It has windows software on the phone which some feel is it's only downfall. I'm personally happy with my LG Dare, but I don't need the corp e-mail capabilities.
