Default Shop tools recommendations

Hey folks, I am looking to purchase some tools for my upcoming projects. So far I only have the minimal hand tools to get by. I am looking to get a small 25-40 gal compressor, an 1/2" impact gun, a 3/8" impact driver, a bunch of impact sockets, some pry bars, and some misc tools for engine/tranny swapping.

What do you guys use and recommend? Like everyone, I am on a budget, so I will have to settle for some used stuff, or craftsman stuff.

Are airtools even necessary for FYI'ers nowadays? Are those battery powered impact guns strong enough?

TIA!

I think you'd be better off buying well taken care of used high-end tools, than craftsman. This is just been what I've told from when I used to be a porter back in the day.

IR impact guns are nice, and as with any gun make sure you keep it oiled, the best of guns can have torque reduced if not oiled. I have a 110v 1/2" craftsmen impact gun and I think my 3/8" IR has more torque but there may be better ones out there now.
I hate craftsmen wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers but their prybars are fine as well as a few other misc tools.
It pays to get a quiet air compressor, the size of the tank doesn't really matter as much as the size of the pump. Compressors can last a long time so it pays to spend extra to save your hearing and to also be nice to your neighbors. I think mine is an eight gallon wheel barrow type.
Don't go cheap on torque wrenches either, you want something you can trust to be consistently accurate.
Your tool will last a lifetime if used correctly and maintained properly.

hey Mac! I do want a small quiet compressor, which model do you have? I am thinking about this one:

Seems to have good reviews, and ppl say it's fairly quiet for the $$.

I'm a happy fan of Craftman tools in general. I use their sockets, screw drivers, etc. I do use Gearwrench for my ratching wrenches and I have Snap-on for other items as well, but in reality Craftman will work for most people and for most tasks.

I have the vertical 175 psi version of that compressor and it is fairly quiet. I don't worry about waking up my neighbors at midnight.
