so dealer says i have a bent valve
Car has been sounding fine, driving just like i bought it as a Certified Pre-Owned with 30k a couple years ago. Check engine light came on a couple times, went off so i've been driving it. It now has 70k miles.
They said that cylinder #3 lost some compression, they did a leak down test. Told me i over-revved, which i don't think is possible since i've been the only one driving it. I'm hoping a retainer failed or a valve guide. They said i bent a valve, and its probably only slightly bent as the car seems to drive fine.
Dealer says they will not cover it, they haven't pulled the head yet.....not only do i have the cpo warranty, i also have Honda Care. So now i'm going to be making a call to Honda.
Any of you guys go through this? Plus i'm 29, and not a kid anymore driving his first manual. Hopefully the right thing will be done.

This is where the dealer tries to find a way so they won't have to make repairs. But it's really kinda stupid because Honda is actually paying them to do the repairs since you do have a warranty. Kinda of a catch 22. Don't admit to anything, call honda, you have warranty.....you should be good.

I had something similar happen to mine a few years back, only it really was a couple of bent valves. Never had an over-rev, but I had bounced it off the limiter really had at an AutoX.
I was 24K out of warranty...
Honda picked up the majority of the bill for me. =)
Which Honda Dealership?

I would
1. Find a new shop
2. Get them to prove machenical over rev not rev limiter
3. Contact Honda directly
4. Get all your warranty paperwork in order.

try taking it to another dealership and if you get the same thing, i'd ask for proof that it's over rev related. get it from both dealership to see if it's consistent..

This exact thing happened to my 2002 3 weeks ago. I also took it to Stevens Creek. They also told me I had a bent valve. I needed my car back so I had them take off the head to send to the machine shop. Turns out I did NOT have any bent valves. All my valve guides were bad especially on the exhaust sides. So the dealer had these fixed at the machine shop and my car got put back together.
The cost was actually less than what I thought it would be at the dealer. So they really don't know if you have a bent valve unless they take off the head. They also keep insisting I had one until the head was off.
