No, the 50 is actually a percentage of the treadwidth. Read this to learn about tire sizes and labelling conventions.
So 225/50-16 is the same overall diameter as 245/45-16.
Vu actually has 225s all around, I believe. He also had RS-2s, I believe. They wear ok, I had them on my e30. I'd say they wear as quickly as other higher performance tires like Azenis or RE-01Rs.
