Funny re: #1 as we know your Z does pretty well against S2000s.
We know it can't be the driver!

The 255mm tire width limit really shifts the balance of power for this class.
If STR allowed the STU (285mm) tire widths, or event the STX (265mm, what I ran last year) widths, I would like my chances a lil more.

Short answer: No.
Long answer:
Since I'm not prepping for anything and I don't see myself contending this year then I prolly won't make it out to any Bay Area events.
Because I've opted for mods for track day speed, the only classes I qualify for right now are BSP and ST/BSP. My chances in either of those classes are slim to none and would require the purchase of a new set of Hoosiers or very wide extreme class tires to even try.
I could qualify for STR but it would require me picking up a new set of RIMS (9.0" width) and tires (255 width) to meet the class regulations. I can't see myself spending $1.5-2k just to handicap my car. Those regs really cut out any advantage that my car might have vs. the competition.
I might still be competitive but truthfully I'd rather use that $$$ toward track day entries and toward debuting an new car in STR next year.

at SFR we have new group, called Index class... basically one group with different classes competing using pax. Just like the Sac region when you guys have pax points and give award at the end of the year. The only difference is when you are in Index class, you cant compete in your regular class.
i.e. i run my s2k in BSP index... i cant have points in regular BSP. The good thing is you can bring different cars/classes and you can add up the points using the index of that car you drive that day.
I am running index this year. As much as i wanted another S2k for STR, i couldnt find one i like.... so i picked up a G stock car. Mini Cooper S hehe.

^ I can't compete with the Corvette in BSP. We both kno it would require a very prepared AutoX focused car and I don't have the desire or resources to go there right now.
The index class thing is kinda cool ... if you ignore the quirks and assumptions associated with indexing.
That Mini Cooper S is kinda cool... a small FWD should provide a whole new type of challenge for you this year. Never driven one but I hear they are fun.

^ Didn't realize that...but I bet you'd still do very well.
If I had an S2k I'd say not a problem because those wheel/tire specs are optimal for autoX/track/daily. I'd prolly buy it even if I wasn't trying to fit in an autoX class. For my current car, I'd only be buying to fit under an artifical ceiling.
I think I could live with buying the tires if the rules didn't require new rims as well... makes me wonder if anyone would call me out if I mounted legal 255 tires on my illegal width rims...
