Technically, the K-series is a much better engine because its easier to modify(more complient with mods). The gearbox does not come from the Civic I think, it's probably a custom job.

I believe that currently the Atom is legal in Oregon, Washington, and California.
The (lexan) tinted double bubble is not technically a windscreen or windshield. When sitting in the car, the double bubble is lower than the driver's head (you look over the double bubble, not through it). It wouldn't stop any object from hitting you in the face, but it does help to deflect the wind.
I've inquired about using larger tires and wheels. I was thinking about 225 width front and 255 rear. The problem is that the Atom can generate 2Gs of lateral force as it is, with the optional A048s. Going to wider, stickier tires might cause too much stress on the frame and suspension. Perhaps it would be possible to go to a 215 Ft and 235 Rr combo.
The other issue is the fenders. The fenders curl over the edge of the tire sidewall, and wider fenders may be necessary for wider tires.
I'll let you guys know what I find out.
I'm tring to work out a way to get an Atom in '06 (and keep the S, of course!).

i keep thinking about how awesome the atom must be, but in reality, the S the already the s$^# to me and 60k would pay for an aweful lot of adventure in travelling with friends, SO, etc. more to life than cars, but thank god honda made such a great cheap car.

The ariel is only $40k.
The price I'm looking at (not all options included) is $73,440. That's not including aftermarket wheels, seats, and other mods.
The price I'm looking at does include CF bodywork & fenders, CF pan, CF front & rear wings, CF dash with full digital display/datalogger, roll bar, etc., etc.
