there's lots of discussion on the 1 series in the car talk forum - mixed reviews, basically slightly overpriced, ugly high performance car.

BMW touching back on their roots... their cars have become way too bloated and as a long time BMW enthusiast I am extremely happy they're making this car.

If anything its the car that will make me go back to BMWs.

Cool

You know its funny you say that but its soo true. The ridiculous thing was that this 1 series has been out for quite a while. Even Mexico had it before us!!! WTF. Anyway kinda glad this thing came later or else I would have never bought my S. Which I love cherish an adore now! ROFL S

Heres a link for some review infor.

I read somewhere that the curb weight is still high. So it's small in size, but still heavy.

AOL Auto Claims 3440#. If that's mfg rating, that will be the weight before fuel.

1 series

But we won't know for sure until we get here.

I think it's BMW's way of justifying the 3 series high price tag "see, the 3 series isn't entry level, the 1 series is"

3440!!!! WTF thats incredibly heavy.

When I read 1 series I thought to myself.... Z3ISH size? Hoping for 2900lbs like the S perhaps.

Even my wife's Mini Cooper weighs less then the S. still with a V6 I guess I could go 3200lbs and be happy still. I mean why is it that the 300ZX can weigh in at like 3400 and have 300hp from 1990...and bmw can't seem to make that happen right now?

I know the answer to that but, please please please use whatever you need to to make these things lighter BMW! Fact is the E30 felt like driver/road connection. The E36 was still ok. The E46 just feels like your playing a videogame in which you sit in a seat. and I'd expect the new V8 just feels like a damn boat. I just feel soo disconnected in the E46. I want to see lightweight from BMW. The guys who designed planes need to be brought back. Too bad they're all old as hell.

just a rant.

I'm still mixed feelings about this car. IMO, it's a little overpriced for what it is. 135i with just the premium/sport package comes in at about $40k... crazy...

pretty close but it is Curb Weight: 3252 lbs. as stated by edmunds. Not bad for a tiny bmw with about 300hp... thats like the sentra with the vq engine swap. hella scary fast. but at least with the beemz its safe and styley

about your rant, well a lot of their weight goes into the chasis reinforcements and all those safety features. I heard that this car was supposed to be much safer than the 3 series and the mini cooper( even when they said that was safer than the 3 series). at least for such a small car it gets pretty decent gas mileage for a 6 cyl.
