I work for Zurich and they pay out at the same time as payroll but on separate checks. That is the way it has always been. I would be uncomfortable with getting it on the same check, but all you have to do is call payroll and ask for an explanation with regards to taxation.

If a company tried to get me to pay for my own business trip, I
wouldn't be working for them very long...

Although, the company I work for gave me a folding table for
a desk, and expects 24/7 support without giving me a laptop.
