Do you guys think movie star's influences can change or persuade anyone?
(I thought there was no way in hell he would win, but sure enough)

This reminds me of the 70's/80's where Jane Fonda was suddenly an expert on nuclear power, all because she acted in the movie "The China Syndrome".
People are free to have/state their opinions, even if they are famous. How they go about using this influence is pretty insulting. The best case of this was Schwartzenegger's campaign for Governor. His acting fame was a central campaign issue and carried him office, not his politics.

[QUOTE=The Raptor,Nov 2 2004, 09:47 AM] Plus he inherited the largest budget surplus in history and turned it into the largest budget deficit in history, while presiding over the four years of net job loss -- the first president to do so since herbert Hoover during the Great Depression.

For me, it all comes down to one deciding factor: Kerry the person. I personally believe the man to be untrustworthy with actions bordering on the traiterous. Why would you want to put someone like that in the White House? On the other hand, I think Bush has done an excellent job prosecuting the war on terror.
To rebut Raptor's point on the economy, the bubble had already burst when Bush took office. Clinton left him a heaping pile of cow manure to steward, and he's done an excellent job, leading us into a recovery. Of course, Kerry will take all the credit for it if elected. Raptor, as a small business owner, did you not benefit at all from the tax cuts? Any chance those cuts might have enabled you to hire any extra help, or avoid having to let someone go?

The key point is: regardless of your politics, get out and vote. I could care less what your party affiliation is, as long as you are legally entitled to vote, then you should do so. My voter "receipt" is my license to gripe and complain for the next four years.
My true feelings on voting and government office are that they should be reserved for citizens. I'm talking about how "citizenship" was defined in Starship Troopers -- and I'm talking about Heinlein's excellent book, not the crappy movie.
