Default Good Italian restaraunt

Hi all,

Ok, guessing from previous posts there's some foodies around here. Yesterday my girlfriend of 2 months was kind enough to drive up from OC to San Gabriel Valley to see me after work - and I ended up taking to her a horrible restaraunt (one other party in there; I'm guessing the 90-decibel mariachi music should've been a tipoff, but we were both starving). She was good enough to smile and 'enjoy' it.

So I'm looking for a nice Italian restaraunt in OC to take her to this wkend. Some ambience, but GOOD food a must. Pref around $25 a plate - hey I'm a college prof, not exactly the pinnacle of moneymaking.

Thanks guys!

Maggiano`s at South Coast Plaza is great. Or The Old Spaghetti Factory in Newport is good and cheap. Plus you can hitthe pier afterwards.

How's the ambiance? Is it northern or southern Italian style? I hate to say it but after living in Boston I've gotten jaded and have had a hard time finding a good Italian rest. - nothing beats the North End! But... since I don't live there anymore, I gotta find a place around here. And the roads in Boston - man, forget it!

From what I heard the "Spaghetti Bender" is supposed to be REALLY good. I think its out in Huntington Beach somewhere and its some hole-in-the-wall restaraunt running about $20 a plate with unlimited bread and salad or something. If I find out more about it I'll let you know

Well if you want a good place.... for moderate price
$9-$16
Scarantinos off El toro and freeway
I ust want there Saturday night

They share a wall with Arbys
also right across from Mcshits

or in Mission Viejo at Margarite and Santa Margarita pkwy next to Henerys market

Valentinas.... $15-$30 friday and saturday night the have a small band

I have been upset with service a couple times... but the good food off sets the poor service

Villa Nova off PCH in Newport Beach is nice. It has an excellent waterfront view., The staff was really friendly which is always a plus. Nice classy ambiance
