Police arrested a 36-year-old California man after he allegedly sold his daughter for marriage and then called police to complain that her buyer had not paid off his debt which included $16,000, 100 cases of beer and several cases of meat, NBC reported.

Police said Marcelino de Jesus Martinez tried to arrange for his 14-year-old daughter to marry Margarito de Jesus Galindo, 18.

After the girl moved in with Galindo, Martinez called police to complain that he hadn't been paid. Then the girl's father asked police to help him get his daughter back.

Both men were arrested.
