How old are you? Do you have a family? Trying to meet a sig. other? How much noise and traffic can you stand?

Knowing nothing about what you want I'd say Pasadena is a great choice for LA county. It's near Raptor, is suburban (rather than hyper-urban like West LA), has decent levels of traffic, great shopping, okay nightlife. Prices range from medium to very high.

There are areas in the OC, like Irvine, that meet the same criteria but they are so far apart it's like driving to Mexico, with the traffic here...

FYI for YellowFever: 50 mile commute = about 10 hrs!
If you do have a long commute, www.sigalert.com is your friend. It has saved me countless hours on the freeway over the last 2 years.

Yeah, I live in La Crescenta and my business is in Pasadena, 10 minutes away. Never any traffic problem on the 210. Pasadena is freeway close to a lot of places. I know, I have jobs all over Southern California.

My commute consists of a 45 second walk across the street.

My S2000 doesn't see much weekday driving at all.

And you're very close to the beach. (I spent my childhood and early adult life in Westchester-Playa del Rey-Marina-del-Rey.)

Yeah, a very active night life. BTW, we don't have a stadium with a big hole in the roof like you do.

Sorry guys, let me elaborate a little more.

1. I'm single and 23, so that means I'm flexible in terms of my living situation. 2. I'm currently working at Morgan Stanley and would like another job in the finance industry.
3. I'm looking for either a studio, one bedroom or 2 bedroom apt. But eventually, I want to purchase a house.
4. I want to be near the city and would like to live in a place with a great night life and close to the beach.
5. I would like a short commute (20 mile max).

I'm still in the process of looking for a job, so I'm still in the initial stages of my move. I want make sure I've thoroughly research everything before I move. Wow! Thanks for all the great replies and keep them coming.

Santa Monica-Venice is the beach, about 20 miles from downtown LA. Marina del Rey-Playa del Rey is a little further south. Rush hour traffic on the 10 (Santa Monica Freeway) can be brutal. Maybe you can land a job with a brokerage in West LA, which is near Santa Monica or, better still, in Santa Monica.
