Default Run with the Bear

Hello Everyone

As I scrolled through endless topics and chats here in the Socal Community I notice there are no meetings or drives here in San Bernardino area (or at least within the radius of 20 miles) i hear of these amazing drives of Mulholland. I've been wanting to participate in some of these drives that go on weekly/Biweekly but... are more than out of my way. On a random weekend i decided to drive out on the 330 A.K.A Road To Big Bear or Arrowhead how ever you want to look at it. While strolling on this smooth winding road i asked my self why not have some sort of "Group Drive" like the others do, such and amazing road must be enjoyed. It would be great to have local people in the forgotten land of SB, join and create. I went back to big bear the next day for the very reason of seeing if this could actually work and in fact it can. There are very great Dine-ins/Restaurant and many places to start up BBQ's next to the lake. The greates thing of all is the climate in big bear it is the ideal weather for Top to Drop.

I even recorded my drive the second time i went up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r95D_wxaf_w&feature=plcp Enjoy

Let me know what you think of all this, suggestions and any further ideas are always welcome.

Nice. From 03-06, I lived in Running Springs and worked in Redlands. I used to drive the 330 everyday and miss it a lot. 330 is best driven at about 2:00 AM, hardly anyone on the road and the ones that are out will generally use the turnouts and let you pass. The 330 was actually in my back yard, lol.

Some old pics from my porch:

Next time you head up the 18, stop at "The Cottage" in Blue Jay for the best pizza on the mountain!

One of my friends use to go to Rim of the World High School and he would show me pictures like these. Ocean of clouds, quite an amazing sight.

Most definitely will have to check that out tomorrow.
-thanks

If you build it, they will come.

Which is to say, plan it out and get people signed up. It sounds like it would be a really nice day trip. Looks like there are people on the forum who know the local area well enough to provide info on good locations for lunch (consider parking issues) and whatnot.

My experiences so far with planning these types of things is that if 10 people sign up and say they are coming, about 6 of them show up. However, another 3 or 4 who never said anything at all show up unexpected.

via mobile. sorry about any typos. :-( dyac.com is like my life story.

As RMurphy suggested, a went ahead and looked at the road for clearance for low profile vehicles (no problem) and checked for Parking spaces, approx 11 parking spaces that are located on asphalt and 12 extra parking on dirt grounds. For some owners including me, don't like to park on dirt areas just for the simple fact that it gets the car dusty quicker (that's the price i have to pay for having an NFR). I've already talked to the owner of the restaurant and they do reserve space seating up to 25 people with a separate room. For those who drink, there is a bar though i don't recommend drinking alcoholic beverages [but we are all adults and have what is known as "responsibility".

Of course like last time i went ahead a took pictures (i could have gotten better pictures from goggle street view) of the bar, menu, and parking. Forgive me for the not so great photos, they where taken with my phone.

Sounds and looks lovely! Are those two dates you mentioned (which are both Sundays, btw) actual group drive dates you are planning or are those reconnaissance drives you are doing as prep? I hope that whatever day you pick is one that I'm available to go. :-)
