Angry Stripped Upper A Arm nut!

Ok, so I was finishing up on the install on the font.

When I tighten the upper a arm bolt with a craftsmen toque ranch set to 97ftlb, it keeps going, then I thought something was wrong, I stopped, tighten the other side, same way, it clicks and tightens. When back to the other one, it keeps going.

Used another toque ranch set to 80ftlb, it clicks, then used back the larger one, set it to 82, it clicks, 92, keeps going,

and then "BINK"

It's stripped!!!

Took the bolt out and now it took out most if not all of the threads. The shea(sp) came out with the bolt like metal strings.

What can I do to fix this?????

Please help anyone!!!

I put the bolt back but I tighten it by hand it have maybe 30ftlb on it right now.

Get a bigger bolt that will go all the way through the welded nut on the upper A arm. Since the bolt will go all the way through you can just use a nylon nut.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if I remember correctly, the nut is welded to that bracket on the body.

Sounds like you will either have to torche off the old nut and have a new one welded on or a new bracket. You can also check with a shop to see if it's advisable to re-thread it.

Care to chim in guys?

Use a longer bolt and use a lock nut on the end of the welded one.

Thank you all for the helpful tips.

I just bought a extended blot from HONDA and a locking nut from Hardware store(Not all Honda carry the nut).

Is this more of a temporary fix or it is safe to leave this in as a permanently?

How much torque should I put this in now? is 97 really necessary for this application? Its awfully A LOT of toque for such a small bolt.....!!

IIRC, the torque spec on the A arm bolts is like 75, not 97?

Yup 75.9 lb/ft. 97 is the reason it stripped!
