Default ucla parking

im an incoming graduate student at ucla and did not realize that you had to apply for a permit months in advance. does anybody have any suggestions as to where to park in westwood, preferably near the south side of campus (engineering building). im not at all opposed to paying a monthly fee for parking, but the hourly rates in the visitor lots are ridiculous. i do intend to apply for a permit for next quarter.

i live in brentwood, i think its something around 2.1 miles from my place to the engineering building, so i can buy a bike and ride that, but it would be nice to be able to drive at least most of the way there.

oh, and i also just read through a thread of bruins who were talking about having a mini meet, thats about a year old, but if anybody is still interested, let me know.

thanks,
Ryan

if you are lucky and EARLY ... you'll find something on Hilgard Ave.
.
.
.
if not ... you can try your luck parking along Gayley north of Strathmore.
.
.
.

If you can find street parking around Wilshire Center then you can take the shuttle back to campus.
.
.
.

Look up myUCLA forums ... people post selling their parking spot in their apartments

There is a parking structure that is across the street from 969 Hilgard, they offer month rates. And its a short walk to the Engineering building (10-15min)

i just looked that up on google maps, doesnt look too far at all, and if it is where i think it is, ive even parked there before a while back, didnt realize they had monthly parking. didnt look like the best place to keep my car safe from dings (small parking spots from what i remember) but it might work if its not too expensive

ill see if i can check it out tomorrow or wed.
thanks

If hourly is ridiculous, but you don't mind paying monthly, how about just daily permits? Sort of like an in-between, and I'd honestly rather pay the $7 (or whatever it is now, it was $7 when I left) for the convenience of parking in the lots.

I would check postings at apts - often people sell an extra space, as already mentioned. You might also want to consider the (gasp) bus, if it's only 2.1 mi away.
