One of the member took a look yesterday and looks like it was rubbing the top inner fender on the left side.

Which makes sense because this happened when I was on a downhill right bank freeway off ramp exit.

So I am guessing it was understeer + driver side top fender rubbing that caused all the weird noise and smell.

Jacking back up she goes!! (Again) sigh......

But isnt the CR setup the similar way?

215 front 255 back?
Yes, you are correct.

And bigjeff, 255 is in no way too much grip...lol
I was referring to the fact that hes running 255 rs3 rears and stock fronts.

The rs3 is probably a little softer though, especially on the sidewall.

His problem isn't the mismatch tires as much as the tire burning.

Maybe something is hitting them?

Just turn the wheels all the way to one side and visually inspect. At least.
The tires are not even in the same performance category. To top it off, the rears are sticker RS3s, while the fronts are 6 year old RE050. The rears have FAR more grip than the front.

It's like comparing an old boxster to the latest carrera. The front tires are not even in the same league as the rears.

Not really the point.
It's not like comparing an old boxster to the latest carrera.
That would be more like comparing reo1r to re11.

The reo5o is the 'next' category down from the rs3. Comparable? A bit.

The VSA is sensitive that's all. Mine would flash when I installed re11's and went on spirited drives. Had to turn it off. That helped. Car felt fine.

In terms of grip, this is how it stands.

RS3 >> RE11 > RE01R >>>>>> RE050

Lets not forget that the RE050 are 6 years old and dried out.

If you feel the RE050 and RS3 are somewhat comparable, you can push the car harder. They're not even close.

IT doesnt matter about which tires Pinchy is running...Problem is the rubbing on the inner fender liner...Problem solved
