Default 1 Year experience on 1200cc Bike, 1000cc or 600cc

A little background about me, I use to have a 05' Suzuki Bandit 1200S for a year. This was my first bike and it was fun even for a heavy bike. I never took any MSF courses or motorcycle classes but I believe I have just enough experience to get a sportbike. A year of experience in riding around the city, highway, bad weather (fog/rain). I will admit to a lowside crash and dropping the bike due to it being 450 lbs.

My personal experience of the Suzi 1200s Bandit was it seemed agile for its size. So my question is what should I get next? stick to a 1000cc or a 600cc bike? Trying to decide between a 07' GSX-R1000 or 07' R6. Thanks

I plan on daily driving it in city, never going to use it for tricks or street racing. Maybe a track day and/or canyon run but once or twice a year.

If you're almost only city driving why do you want a serious sport bike? Put another way, what don't you like about the big Bandit?

Have you considered the middle (ish) ground of the Gixer 750? - very nice

The reason I want a sportbike is because I always wanted one but I decided to get the Bandit as a beginner bike. The big Bandit was good for the most part but it wasn't as fun for daily driving, just sitting on a R6 in a showroom I felt like this was the bike I should have gotten first.

I considered the Triumph 675, GSX750, CBR954 etc. but I am pretty much set between the 07 GSXR1000 and 07 R6 because they have been rated the top according to most magazine. But most importantly I fell in love with both bikes design.

Go for the GSX-R 1000, it’s more powerful, it has more low-end torque and also it is more comfortable.
The Honda CBR-1000RR is another choice for you. The R1 and ZX-10R are just not for you.
For city riding, the 600cc fours sucks, since there is no torque and you have to rev it a lot to pass a bus!
The R6 is a weekend bike or a track bike, not for city.
Im going to have to kindly disagree with almost everything you said.

If your recommending the GSX-R1000 and CBR1000RR then there is no reason to not also look at the R1 and ZX-10R. They aren't that different.

600cc fours suck? You have to rev it to pass a bus? 600s are very fast and have more than enough power for city driving. What did you mean you have to rev it? You make it sound like thats not fun anyways, lol. Also those bikes aren't made to be riding around at 2k RPM. If your not boggin down your bike you won't even have to downshift. Mine went to 15k RPM and I rarely took it past 8k RPM. Even so I always found myself going sh*t I'm already going 60 on regular city streets. Passing a bus would take all of about 1/4 throttle in 4th gear.

And the R6 is fine for city. Most of the reviews I've read (atleast for 2005 models) all said the GSX-R is the track bike. R6 was a nice mix of track and city and the CBR was most street friendly. I can vouch for this. After riding my GSX-R around on a regular basis. I rode my friends R6 one day. I thought it was much easier to ride and more street friendly.

Just my thoughts.

The 600 will be cheaper all around -- gas, insurance, tires, and maybe speedintg tickets. I just can't imagine wanting all that super-sport wrist weight and high pegs for putting around town.
