Default Is a 1995 Geo Prizm really a Toyota Corolla?

I was wondering if a 1995-98 Geo Prizm was indeed a Toyota Corolla, I know the motor is a 1.8L making the same HP and some of the interior accents are obvious toyota, I know that some times another manufacturer will make a vehicle under a different car company's shell... Isuzu and the Hombre (actually an S-10)... Mazda Navajo (actually a 1st Gen Ford Explorer) and so on. I am looking for a beater and there is a 1995 Geo Prizm with 170k for $1,500 in great shape, if this is actually a Corolla with a GM shell and badging then by all means I'd say I've found a very good car, some however do not know these tid bits, they just see GEO on the car.

I believe it is. My friend had an early 90s Chevy Nova which was also a Corolla and it ran like a top for 200+K miles.

Yes, right down to the screws that hold it together.

I looked for one of these recently when I was looking for a beater. I couldn't find one in my area but I did find a Golf Diesel at a good price so I jumped on it. After a little over 1200 miles I've got an average of right at 48mpg's.

If I could have found a nice Geo Prizm for $1500 I would have grabbed it quickly.

Yes, they are the same. They were both built in the NUMMI plant in California. NUMMI was a joint venture between Toyota and GM. At the time, the NUMMI plant was a GM facility that made Camaros among other things. But during the joint venture, Toyota assumed day to day operations at the plant. Eventually GM divested themselves from the co-op and the plant. And I believe that to this day, NUMMI is still the only UAW plant that Toyota runs.

WTF is with the banner ads in the middle of the thread? Is that for real or is my browser infected with adware?

All Geo Prizms are Toyota Corollas. The worst part of telling people your first car was a Prizm is them picturing a Metro. They are VERY different.

Mine did suck though, notice my "rally driver bumper" mod, courtesy of a small tree outside an off-camber dirt road turn...

^^^ I guess I just noticed it for the first time last night on my home PC. At work, I run Firefox with the Adblock extension. And I can't see them.
