Your opinion based on zero actual information?
Contrary to what was mentioned above, RMS failures have not been "fixed" by Porsche. Many cars need more than one repair. I like Porsches. I have been researching 993's for the past year in the hopes of finding a good example. However my opinions (that is what they are) stand.

My opinion based on MUCH information is that you are a d!ck. Have a little respect when you post. Hiding behind a computer brings out the sh!t slinger in many people. If you don't have the balls to say it to my face (and I highly doubt that you do), don't post it. That being said, the fact remains, in my opinion, that I would rather deal with the 993's problems than with the 996's.
The reality is that the 996 is a better put together more sorted vehicle. The statistics bear this out.

Even if you don't accept Rennlist as a statistical sample, there are 996 owners I've met in the Bay Area who have had multiple RMS failures, and multiple engine swaps, in their late model 996's. Porsche hasn't fixed the problem, either, as it is showing up in 997's. Someone on Rennlist was investigating a class action suit and found that PNA was doing something like 20 RMS-related engine replacements per month in California alone. Now this would include 986 + 996 but it's not an anomaly in the space-time continuum.
It is not uncommon. Besides, you shouldn't have to get a new f*cking motor after 20k miles, whether it's covered by warranty or not! Are you nuts?

Never known this to happen -- I suppose anything is possible -- but what you are not mentioning is that you can buy a complete remanfucatured 996 motor with accessories for 8-10k directly from Porsche. The same 993 motor will run you 25k+

Odd that the turbos and GT3's which use the 993 bottom end rarely suffer from the problem ...
993's sometimes get RMS problems, too, at least from what I hear. But as others might have said - the big one for 993's is CEL / clogged secondary air injectors causing a check engine light and thus failing road inspection. Then there is the valve guide wear. Both require an engine drop (although you can cheat and reset the CEL with an OBD scanner) and silly amounts of $$$.

Sad really since I view my S2000 more as a tool than a car I really love.
Maybe a 993 AND the S wuld be a good compromise...
