Haha yup I'm In the same boat. I am seriously looking at the LS3 3LT Z51 corvettes now. Think I will go for one of those before the Z06 to save me lots of mod money for the corvette.

I was just reading up on the lowering bolts. Pretty awesome!
def cant hate the c6 z51! good choice and similar price range as a Z, but i like the exclusivity! I would have taken a c6 z51 if the price was right tho.

Yeah they are pretty expensive but a bit under the c6Z prices still. Seems the LS 3 responds like crazy to mods!

I'll need to do some test driving soon!

For tracking, a bolton C5Z with upgraded brakes/suspension/oil cooler is probably the best deal out. The LS6 is probably the most bulletproof small block ever made save for the LS9. You can share almost everything with the C6 ie engines, suspension, transmission, rear cradles, etc. etc if need be.

I had '99 Hardtop and it almost never let me down. Beat the crap out of it and it came back for more. The friend I sold it to is still tracking it and driving around the Southeast with 110K+ on it. Made 345whp at 75K miles and 350whp on a different dyno 4 years later.

I thought I was the only one looking at a vette and thinking ill enjoy it! I really want a ls3... but if I want to be reasonable I should be looking at a ls2. I'm going to keep watching this thread! But ill keep the s on the side, I'm scared to give up a car ill regret.

Anyone with a ls3 in Austin?

I love the C5Z, but I constantly find myself on that slippery craigslist slope:
ooo C5Z for 15K! Aww kinda high miles and modded, hmm, oo 18K, aww red and kinda high miles, ooo 20K, aww black paint looks swirly, oh snap, perfect, low miles, silver, photo of car infront of older dude's garage, 25k! Man so much car... oh look 2007 C6 Z51 for 27k, that interior is better than the C5, wait 27K... a few grand more and I can get an ls3 08 vette. (and then I usually spin off into other new cars and yadda yadda) Ah 30K, aren't I in the market for a house right now?
I swear I play this game like once a month, lol.
I suddenly feel less unique.

Been glued to YouTube videos of LS3 corvettes. Damn they are fast!! Stock ones pulling on modded c5z's!

Cams, headers, exhaust, intake and tune seems it can get them to 500whp!

Shuluke,
I was in the same boat having given up an s2000 before and regretting it. So far the only thought I have is wow those people who ragged on f20c torque weren't just being assh*led. The small block pull is enchanting. Mine is bone stock too, I can't wait to put on a more free flowing exhaust/intake!!

THIS!!! When I see what $5k can do... I cry on the inside. My S needs more than that to hold 400hp safely. But I understand its not made for that. Sad to say I stalk corvette forums as well.. and after seeing a video of a gen 1 CTSV outrun an S in the mountains... I have been looking for a LS motor. Almost ready to pull the trigger...

Once I finally pull the trigger, my next step is shopping for exhaust, intake, headers, and a tune.. Hopefully 30+ mpg on the highway as well!
