Thumbs up 2005 911S

Ok. Lets say you have $50k to spend and you want a performance car (maybe exotic) that does everything well. What would you buy instead of a 2005 911 Carrera S. Preferably convertible, carbrio, spyder, version of the car if available. It's not for me but, a friend of mine that is looking seriously and we drive an 07 911S and a new z06 so far. Ive been trying to talk him out of a newer viper but, anything is on the table right now. He is leaning towards something that is lower maintenance which is why he was thinking the viper would be american and cheaper to maintain but, I doubt that.

So... whadda ya got?

My dad had a 99 GTS Back in 2000. Ran great and never any problems. If I had 50 grand I would get a used SRT-10 or C6Z before a Carrera. Im not sure why your trying to "Talk him away" from a Viper. Obviously you have never driven one. They are amazing cars for the price, just like the C6Z.

"Obviously" ?

I have nothing against the viper. He likes to go fast but is no race car driver. He probably should have traction control and stability management. He spun his boxster a couple of years ago and his old z06 he was not quite sure what to do with all the power. So the lack of traction control on the viper was an issue. It's a raw car compared to the z06. I have only driven a 2nd gen viper and for me the only issue was the heat in the cabin in the summer time.

My buddy that has one said the best way to cut down the heat even on the 3rd gen was to put the straight exhuast (no cats & high flow mufflers)on the car. The only problem that he mentioned and I kinda agree, is the car is not legal for emissions and the v10 isnt a smooth sound(his opinion) like a v8 with exhaust. You'll have to hear it to decide if you like the sound. If you live somewhere hot you probably want to test drive on in the summer fully warmed up to see if it bugs you.

I'll need to pull up sound clips on Youtube at home. From the way you describe, it seems almost like they designed this car with heavy-duty track use in mind.

I'll put this plain and simple:

If your friend has $50,000 to spend on a 4-year old Porsche Carrera, he might as well just buy a new Porsche Cayman.
