I think that the "new" SLK is due out that year as well. The Boxster is also up for a model change soon. Seems like MY06 is going to offer a lot of options for the sports car market. The RX-7 may be coming back as well as the Supra. And don't forget about the new NSX due out in 06. It's going to be 95 all over again!!!

95 300 Z TT
95 Mazda RX-7
95 Eclipse GSX
95 Supra
95 NSX
95 3000 VR4 Convertible

I believe so. This SUV madness can't last too much longer. Especially with the gas prices rising the way that they have. My everyday driver is a civic manual, so the gas price increase doesn't really bother me. I spend about $4-$5 more at the pump every week. Big deal I guess I would be upset if my daily comutter was a 7 passenger seating Ford Expedition that got 10-12 MPG and I drove by myself everyday. It's got to hit them one day when they pay $45 at the pump and they realize that they really don't need to drive a moble home to work everyday just to be able to say that the one time a year when they go camping that their vehicle is useful

On that link if you scroll down at the second drawing, doesn't that look EXACTLY like an S2000 coupe?

Being a previous owner of both the first gen and second gen Miata, I hope they don't up the engine (i.e. - a V-6) and don't begin adding all of these bells and whistles (i.e. - retractable hard top). The thing that makes the Miata great is (1) it's affordable for everyone and (2) it remains true to what a roadster is supposed to be... a simple, fun to drive, tossable car, that is one with the driver and the road. You really need to have driven a real roadster (I'm talking about the original Morgan, MGB, TVR of yester-year) and then driven one of these little Miata 4-bangers to understand what I'm talking about.

A V-6 and a retractable hard top screams "boulevard cruiser" to me rather than "back road roadster". Take a moment and think about what makes your car (the S2000) great... it really is a modern day roadster. If you wanted refinement, then you would be driving an SLK.

Now, don't get me wrong. If the Motor Trend article is more truth than speculation, then I applaud Mazda for up-ing the ante, but just don't do it using the Miata / MX-5 / Roadster / Eunos nameplate.

Well Mazda already has a 1.8 V6 design. It was used in the now defunct MX-3, but it wasn't that impressive IMHO. The current Miata I-4 produces 142 HP and 125 lb-ft of torque. That 1.8 V6 in the MX-3 only produced 130 HP and 115 lb-ft of torque.

Notice the article only says they are discussing a V6 for the Miata. Well I'm sure they been doing that for years!
