I like it! And it does look (to me, at least) considerably smaller (and prettier) than the X3 (the guy almost looks like he's driving a station wagon).
I like SUV's, but small. The smaller, the better. I don't want to spend money on stuff that I don't need. Give me juuuust enough room to fit all my crap inside, barely enough power and brakes to tow a 22 ft. boat, raise it just enough to de driven on a dirt road safely, and make it grabby enough not to spin its wheels on a boat ramp and I'm happy.
And why does BMW need yet another SUV besides the X3/5/6? In this new economy, small luxury SUV's could be the next hot item. Americans never stopped loving their SUV's; sales dropped because of higher gas prices and tighter wallets. BMW might just be the forerunners of a new trend, and they sure won't be the only ones. Lexus, Audi, Cadillac and others are working on similar budget-luxury SUV's.

I agree with everything you mentioned. I actually like the look of this X1. Like a raised up station wagon, it looks to be a practical little vehicle.
