Default 2012 Boss Mustang

I saw a self promotion segment for the car on Speed late last night. That got me interested enough to go to the Ford web site:

http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/2012mustangboss/

Looks like a 440 hp N/A engine with a number of mods on the suspension (still no independant rear end) and several other nice packages. I'm not crazy about all the graphics. Has anyone heard anything about the price?

One sold at Barret Jackson for $450,000 but you get some seat time with Parnelli Jones. It was lot 1296 on Saturday.

All the special editions of the Mustang are getting ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I like some of them. But there are way too many versions of the car. Isn't this the reason the big 3 got in money trouble in the first place? I drove into our local Ford dealership the other day and every Mustang I saw was a different "special" edition. If I was shopping for a Mustang it would turn me off to have too many options. There comes a point when it becomes impossible to sort through all of them and you move on to something easier.

On the Ford website there are 10 basic versions to choose from which can all be optioned excessively including the Shelby versions. Then there are multiple Rousch, Saleen, and Boss versions, Dub, California, Daytona Pace car, Steeda, SMS, Hurst, SVT, and recent Bullitt, Warriors in pink,Hertz, Mach 1,and Anniversary Editions.

And I know I missed some. Its overload and a turnoff. I like a special edition as much as the next guy, but how special are they if there is a new one designed every week? And how in the hell are they already selling 2012 models?

Ehh, all of the Porsche stuff makes sense if you spend two minutes looking into it. Do you want RWD or AWD? Convertible or hardtop? Regular power or more powerful? Turbo or NA? That pretty much sums up all of the 911s from the Turbo down. Everything up may get a bit trickier but no one considering those cars would be in any danger of not knowing what they're looking at.

My guess is Ford won't make the Boss too limited in production in the second year. I bet it is an animal, I drove the new 5.0GT a bunch of times, the interior is cheap, but the seats are nice and it moves. I agree with all the different editions being annoying, but 400+ HP with any graphics package is just plain fun.

I have a super power; the ability to ignore things that don't interest me. I'm not interested in paying $50,000 plus for a Mustang or a car with almost the same mechanicals and a graphics package. But something like this in the low $40s or high $30s gets my attention.

I get the point about it all being too confusing for some, but when it comes to cars, the more options the better, for me. Now when it comes to computers, yeah, I agree. All those options are confusing and unappealing and I go look elsewhere.
