They'll probably fix the solid axle in a Mustang right after they fix the leaf springs in a Corvette and the rear engine in a 911. The next week they'll fix the flat-plane cranks in Ferrari's

While they are at it they might as well show BMW that people will buy small- and mid-size cars with something other than a variation of a straight 6. Why stop there, somebody please get Lotus to start building heavier cars, it's getting ridiculous with the whole clamshell thing. Seriously, I'm saying this as a friend

Maybe we can get TVR to start making sane machines with antilock brakes and traction control so it isn't nearly as exciting to hit a patch of wet leaves at 85 on a blind corner.

I'd certainly buy any one of those cars tomorrow if they fixed those simple obvious flaws

You could buy the Euro Focus ST here for a while now, as the Volvo C30. Pretty stout car for a FWD, IMHO.

I think the issue was that the Focus in the US is slotted as the entry-level Ford, and the market wouldn't take to a ~$30K decked out model bearing the same name and sheetmetal. No matter how good the car is.

But with the Fiesta coming they can move the Focus up in the market, so I'm guessing we'll be seeing more of the Euro Focus models. Or they will expand what Volvo offers in the US.

 

Ford is the only one out of the big three that's making moves..

 

I used to think this too, but then Subaru, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen did it with the Impreza, Lancer and Golf respectively. I think the real problem is the Focus shouldn't be faster than the Mustang. Either way I think Ford is going to fix both problems. The Fiesta becomes the new base model in the range and the new 5 litre Mustang moves up a few notches. So hopefully there will now be room for an RS Focus, or gasp.....an AWD turbo model.

 

It's a lovely car....it's about time that Ford brought some of it's best cars to the U.S. The reality is that small cars are no longer going to be equated with inexpensive cars.

 

oh yes. I'm not a huge fan of American cars but this is definitely a game changer.

^^Ford was the first to use this sort of an interior scheme on it's current European Focus and Fiesta, the inspiration for the center console stacking coming from the design of cell phones. It's Hyundai which has the derivative design.

 

WOW! now that is a good looking little car. Its awesome to see Ford bringing out these awesome cars. They seem to really be embracing great looks and decent performance.
