It is a decent car but by no means the most competitive right now. They did drop the price $3000 this year to try to keep them selling until a replacement comes. I really like the look of the Z, but for the price it is not as fast and also is a bit of a guzzler.

What's more competitive for the money than the 5.0?

 

New, nothing. People are picking up '14 5.0's for well below 30k

Used? c5 z06, couple of others.

Depends what you're looking for. Pure performance wise the GT still isn't on the level of a C5Z, but it comes with a back seat and is a (at minimum) 10 year newer car so all the interior refinement and features that goes with that would favor the GT.
Being an essentially new car it's also probably easier to find low mile good condition examples to buy.

Interesting that you can get the car with metal bushings rather than rubber, for better feel and feedback!

 

C6 isn't much better. Still a pretty terrible interior!
