Default 2016 GTi

My son just bought a new VW GTi. He selected the SE model with the performance package and the adjustable suspension. I am very impressed with this car from going on a ride in the back seat with him and the salesman. The technology you get with this package is far superior to what comes in my BMW 235i. The ride is good and the back seats are both comfortable and roomy. I hope to take it for a drive this weekend.

It is a great car; did he get the manual or DSG?

My wife traded in her 2012 GTI for a 2016 about 6 months ago. We went for the 6speed over the DSG. TBH neither of us cared for the DSG when we test drove. We went with the Autobahn + Performance Pack along with the lighting package and Dynamic Chassis Control.

Overall it is a big improvement over 2012. The handling in particular is substantially better. It really is an excellent car.

Manual. He said that was what he wanted. I simply told him the "automatic" isn't really an automatic, but a DSG. I didn't express an opinion as to which he should get. I think the extra cost may have been a factor, but he really didn't show any interest in it.

By the way, he is coming from a Chevy Silverado 2500 Duramax. Quite a change in daily drivers.

My son's car has the same packages, but is the SE rather than Autobahn. What color did you get?

I've been planning to sell my S2000 and get an E90 (sedan) M3 once my wife gets pregnant, but I'm kind of toying with the idea of keeping the S2k and getting a lightly used GTI in addition for daily/family use. One thing that stops me though is I already don't drive much - commute is only 8 miles each way - and I'd have to park one of them on the street.

Did she consider the R? I know it seems like a big step up, but the difference between an R and what you got is only a couple thousand... Of course, you could probably get a deal on a GTI but they still aren't ready to cut deals on an R...
