Here's the story, my buddy in Egypt has a 1989-90 E200 Mercedes which was 100% built in Germany. It barely has 100 hp and probably 100 torque with about 100k miles on the engine and it can reach 260 kph which is the max for the speedometer with its 4 speed manual gear, granted it took a long time but it still reached it. My buddy also saw a 96 or higher S600 V12 which was stock and he saw a 380 kph speedometer. He thinks just because it has a 380 kph it will hit that speed which is roughly 236 mph. He claims his under powered 4 banger, unaerodynamic, older, 4 spd can hit 160 mph so it means this S Class which is 4 x power, newer, much more aerodynamic and stable should be able to hit 380 kph. Keep in mind all the cars in the story are from Germany with no limiters at all. Sorry for the long story but he just can't get it in his head that this is impossible

I'm thinking the 100hp one may be good for 105mph. Unless we're talking a real long steep hill to go with it.

I had a VW Fox with about 100hp and it maxed out at 100mph.

 

 

I tried to give him an example of the CLK-GTR with its top speed of 380 kph, how is the S Class which weighs more, less power, less aerodynamics going to achieve the same speed, not to mention you need special tires to achieve such a high speed.

 

and thats only becuase we only have 3 numbers on our digi speedo. With a little NAAAAAAWWWWWZZZZZ we could easily see 4 nines. 9999

Not really...the first digit can't go any higher than "3". If all the digits werw commpletely lit up the first digit could never be a "4". See for yourself next time you see your S's speedo.

So, the S will really only go 399 mph. But that's plenty fast
