Just thinking about the 300C vs the 545i thread got me thinking. Why not match it up against the full size 745i?

The 545i is a great car, but it's around the same size as an accord 4 door.

The 300C is a full size car.

Here are the numbers:

---length--wheelbase--weight---passanger volume--trunk
745i --198"--118"--4376 lb--104 cubic feet--18 cubic feet
300C--196"--120"--4018 lb--105 cubic feet--16 cubic feet
LS430--196"--115"--3940 lb--107 cubic feet--20 cubic feet

545i--190"--113"--3770 lb--99 cubic feet--14 cubic feet
G35--186"--112"--3369 lb--101 cubic feet--14 cubic feet
Accord--189"--108"--3350 lb--100 cubic feet--14 cubic feet

What I'm trying to point out is its really the 745i that it should be compared against.

If the 300C doesn't put up the same numbers at the track as the 545i, such as skidpad, lateral Gs etc...maybe that's because it's a larger car like the 754i or the LS430. I'd like to see what will lap a track faster between the 300C (hemi) and the 745i.

just because they have similar hp and size, doesnt mean they are in the same league.

I respect that, but take the G35 sedan vs. the 530i can you see where they can be viewed as similar class?

The 300C puts up the same (or better) numbers vs. the 745i and has good refinement, style, function etc...

Sure if someone spends $79K on a 745i he will have to look down at the 300C($33K). He'll surely have to say "It's just a Chrysler (junk)"

I'm not advocting that a Neon SRT is in the same league as the 330i at half the cost, because there are too many areas of superiority for the 330i.

But the 300C with a V8 engine, RWD, 5-speed auto, has just as many features as the 745i for half the price.

I mean for the price of a 745i you can buy a 300C and with the money left over buy a Z06.

You can't judge a luxury car based on numbers alone. Is the 300c going to have that "carved out of granite" feel that a 7 series has? Is it going to have the same level of sound deadening? Road noise? Engine vibration? Ride quality? Thats like saying a Chevy malibu is worthy alternative to a BMW 3 series.

I think I know what your trying to say RAI, but I can see where the problem with this argument is.

In terms of ride (suspension, cornering, acceleration, etc) the 300C and the 745 make for a better comparison, than the 300C vs the 545. Thier both big ass cars.

But the comparison loses some steam, when you compare the 2 cars straight up (ones a luxury car, and its price reflects it, and the other is a car with Chryslers best inttentions put into it, but is just a big ass sedan, read:not luxury).

If your looking for a pimp ride, a car that looks the buisness (in a buisness world) and cant afford or dont want to spend 50-70k on a car, the 300C is (IMO) aimed at you.

My father is a lawyer, I would say his car does not reflect his occupation (Ford Exploder, he hunts thats why he got it, to get up a mountain with 2 feet of snow on the road) His partners drive 5 series, Passats and Audis, those, in my opinion are buisnessmen cars.

And in this example buisnessman means 45+ year old, with 2.5 kids, a house in the burbs, and some pretty hefty college tuition bills on the way.

Abusive, NOT MUCH

I took a ride yesterday in a 745Li, I got to play with the gadgets a bit.

It's freakin' compariable to a Maybach, STUNNING car, every gadget you can think of, including a motorized trunk big enough to carry our cars in!

This thing was HUGE, nice quiet ride and handled not so bad for it's size.

i dont know if its worth $70gs

but they're definetly not comparable. sitting in a 745 (i've only been in an Li...my friend's dad has one and we use drive around in it regularly) is more comfortable than my dorm room. might even be more roomy too. the ride is nice, handling crisp, and just sooooooo nice to sit in.

(btw this same friend's dad has an s500...not the new gen...and that was nothing special)
