Default 350Z Paint Quality Problems - Does it affect you?

There are several threads on my350z.com explaining various paint quality problems such as easy chipping, etc. I thought I would pass this on.

Damn that sucks. I guess it was one of the cost-cutting measures Nissan used. But then again, their front bumper is pretty flat (If thats wheer the problem is), it's prone to get hit by a lot of stones.

I've noticed similar comlaints here as well as IS300.net and other car boards.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the newer, more environmentally paints simply aren't as good as the old, fully polluting paints.

The Japanese manufacturers must be compromising on the paint quality to keep the car priced within the $30-$35k area. I have had two paint peeling issues on my bumper areas that were repainted under warranty.

It's not the chipping that annoys me even the honda's have that problem. It's the god awful orange peel effect in the paint.
I'm one of the ones in that thread that will buy their S2000 a year early if their daytona blue z shows up with the orange peel syndrone.

It doesn't look like to many s2000 owners haved mentioned having encountered that on delivery of their new car.

Can someone post that orange peel pic from my350z.com over here? It is truly disgusting.

I always thought orange peel is easy to rectify - have a body shop refinish the affected panels. Not taking delivery of a car due to minor, correctable paint issues is kind of silly. Just go over the car when it comes in, and if you see any paint or other issues, bring them up. I am sure the dealer is more than capable of fixing the problem. Not like the factory could possibly be perfect for $35K.

certain years and colors of vipers have a huge problem with orange peel too. And that paint job is like a $10k monkey.
