Default 599 Stopped by Today

I didn't get any interior shots, but it was black with red stitching. It had both the lower and upper carbon fiber packages. It also had matching luggage which was very cool.

Incredible car. I didn't think much of it at first (when it was first released, that is) but the more I see it, the more I like it. Sweet!

I can't wait to see one in person. Another ringer from Enzo's shop.

I believe Ferrari is ending the cycle of all 'next-gen' cars have to weigh more than the previous gen, lets hope other companies (hint: BMW, Porsche, MB etc..) will do likewise.

That is HOTT although i would've thought the rear tires would be bigger

I read somewhere that the next gen BMW 3 series will weigh less than the current one, so theyre on the right path

Can't imagine next M3 will weigh less, the new 3-series is ~140 lbs heavier than last gen.

I read something to the effect that the next gen M3 (V8) engine will weigh less than the current gen I6 engine.

So the engine will weigh less, but I'd still bet the car will weigh more.

I'm not saying all cars are heavy pigs, or that I want cars to weigh 2000 lbs. I'm just saying that every gen seems to gain 100 or 200 lbs so (for example) a car like the GTi or the 3-series are weighing 1000 lbs (about) more than they used to weigh, I bet you can say the same thing about Civics and Accords.

-----

The 599 is bigger than its predecessor, the 575 Maranello, with more trunk space (240 litres) and more fuel capacity (105 litres) for greater range; its cabin is roomier, more comfortable and better equipped..

The body and structure are all-aluminum and despite its extra size, the 599 is actually 20 kg lighter than the 575. It also concentrates 85 per cent of its mass within its longer wheelbase. The aluminum structure is not only lighter but it's stiffer than steel which improves both refinement and performance. 'Refinement' because a stiffer body is actually quieter and 'performance' because it allows engineers to more precisely tune the suspension -
I believe I read somewhere that a Ferrari exec said the F430 was the last "heavier next-gen" car and that from then on next-gen cars were going to weigh less, thus in effect not needing to add power to offset added weight.
