Default AC Cobra

Does anyone have any experience in pulling together a Cobra replica?

The kit's price is around $12,000. And looks like I need an engine and transmission. I don't want to have a donor used car. Can I get those parts after market but new? How much money would be involved to complete a Cobra roadster (not racer) with all new parts?

Which company makes the highest quality kits? How reliable would those cars be?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I like Factory Five Racing.. They have a good kit. I don't have any experience building one myself.. But I've seen the cars in person and they look good. I've seen people that have been able to build up one of those for 16-18k complete, that's with a donor car, obviously it's going to cost more if you use all new stuff.. There is atleast one company that can supply you a total package of everything needed to finish the car that doesn't come with the kit... Unfortunately I don't remember what their website address is...or the name.. Probably be able to find them if you look around a while...

Thanks Dragon.. Much appreciated.

I've requested a brochure and DVD from Factory Five. I've also looked at Superformance.com. Is one of them affiliated to the other? Or they are completely different companies?

Superformance and Factory Five are different companies. I haven't checked out Superformance in a long time, but when I was looking at buying one or the other a while back I was leaning toward FF, it just seemed like they had a better product, of course, that could all just be presentation... Sadly, my roadster plans are on hold for now because of practicality.

I'm a fan of Unique Motorcars. A friend of mine has a couple of them and they are very nice and very fast. I've also been for rides on the track in several other brands. I just like the Unique best.

The cars are not good daily drivers. They're hot, loud, and rough. They are also fun.

Between FF and Superperformance; Superperformance puts out the superior product by a mile.

The folks at the Cobra Forum (http://www.cobratrader.com/) will have plenty of opinions.

IMHO, the Superformance beats the FF5 car by a mile, but of course it cost a lot more too. Figure about 20-25K for a FF5 and 50+K for a Superformance

By just looking at the websites, I was also impressed more by Superformance. They have a nice presentation of their products.

Well, where can I find a new engine and tranny? I am thinking to go with Mustang SVT V8 320HP. How much would it cost to me?

One big deal with Factory Five is their spec racer category. That sounds like a blast. I don't know about your area but in So Cal you'd have to stop by House of Cobra (in Orange I think). They carry used ones for sale.

Sorry if I was misleading earlier is saying that FF had a better product. I was factoring in cost when I said that because that's was part of my considerations when I was in the market.

About the engine and tranny. Im not sure about superformance, but FF's cars are not set up to use the 4.6L svt engine, it's not to say you couldn't use it, there should be plenty of space, it'd probably take a little fab work though. Best bet is to call and ask whatever company you decide to go with as they should have a definite answer for you.
