ACURA
[QUOTE=versionJDM,Feb 18 2008, 02:34 PM] Acura NSX: No date has been given for the next-generation NXS but sources says it could be in the 2010 or 2011 model year. Acura sources say the company hasn
I did hear somewhere recently that Acura wanted to go for the golden ring above BMW and Merc, and that would be RR/Bentley. I don't recall where I read that, but I doubt Merak is making this up. Also, it is assumed that if Acura is targeting RR/Bentley, that that means they'll go from $40k cars to $400k cars in the span of a few years. I highly doubt that anything close to this will happen. Just because you're targeting RR/Bentley doesn't mean that you're going to reduce your sales #s and production force to only support a few thousand cars a year. I think it simply means they are looking for more inspiration and are going to try their hand at doing what Lexus still hasn't done.
Regardless of whether or not Marek made it up, Acura at this point NEEDS to shoot that high to make up ground. Also, that would not be a bad place to start aiming your styling. The powertrain lineup is the biggest question, so we'll have to see. Everything hinges on that.
But are you guys busting on Marek seriously telling me you wouldn't want Acura to try something like that, something different than the "nice Accord" strategy they've been employing for ten years too many? Even if Marek is crazy, he's still right. It's Acura's fault that he is.

This Acura boondoggle has me concerned about the coming Lincoln MKS (I work at a Lincoln/Mercury/Jeep dealer) and about the upcoming Caddies (see other thread about GM cancelling v8 development). Nobody seems interested in high dollar, front wheel drive/awd, v6 cars, yet Lincoln seems to have latched onto them and won't let go. Granted, we've had ALOT of interest in the MKS, and there are a whole lot of people who still come in and gripe about the Continental not being available (not built since 2002), but with all this anti-acura talk, it's got me worried. Maybe we'll be able to dodge this bullett since we're a domestic and we won't be held to the same high standard as Acura.
I fell in love with the Legend coupe 1988
I fell in love with the NSX 1991
I fell in love with the Integra Type-R 1997
............I haven't felt anything for any Acura since 1997;instead I only watched and lamented as these Precison Crafted Performance products faded away. Thank you Mr.Marek you manage to eff up a good thing
Here's Acura Popeye's way:
1) A mid-engine NSX that is powered by a detuned IRL V-8 and a 7sp trans...have it say HONDA INDY on the valve covers
2) A V8 5.0L powered rear drive Legend........yes I said LEGEND a sedan,a coupe and a convertible w/7sp manumatic
3) A V6 powered TL with SH-AWD w/7sp manumatic ;give us a sedan and a wagon......yes I said a WAGON
4) An MDX V6 Turbo deisel Hybrid that delivers 350hp SH-AWD has 3rd row seating and give you 40MPG
That's it.......... 4cylinders belong in Hondas not Acuras
Oh and for God sakes offer some colors other than white ,black and ten shades of gray/silver
Give us green and orange and ocean blue and candy apple red

A friend of mine who is an auto technician brought up a good point the other day. I am sure we would all like to see Acuras offering V8s and V10s. But considering that Honda doesn't offer any cars in the U.S. with a rear drive platform, with the exception of the S2000, they really dont have a platform to make reardrive cars off of. To do they have to design a new platform from scratch, and they also have to have new plants, new parts and on down the line. With stricter laws (CAFE) coming and the fickle nature of the market it's a gamble for Acura.
I think they have decided to take the gamble, but they have to start from scratch which is why they probably won't be ready with any true rear drive offerings until 2010 or 2011.
