Almost pulled the trigger.....
Well, have been looking at these cars for sometime and decided to actually go for a test drive. I've been looking at white ones just because I think it's an amazing color for the Evo X. The dealer had one, but it had some things I didn't care for like Navi, side skirts and some stupid little 3/4 inch tall "spoiler extension".
Anyways, walking up to the car you start to realize(compared to the S), it is HUGE, but wow, how beautiful it is. Everything from the aggressive front end w/huge air dam to the massive Brembo brakes. The seats are awesome too, not sure on the material, but it feels like a cheap suede. They also fit a lot more snug than the S seats. The interior is "Eh". Didn't fall in love with it like I did the exterior, but the seating arrangement was nice.
On to the test drive...
At start up, the car has a deep growl to it, nothing crazy though. The car really never gets loud like the S, almost seems to keep the same sound all the way through the rpm's, which of course, isn't that exciting. But what made up for it was the acceleration. At about 2.5k rpm, the car went nuts and it sucked me into the seat... Which, being an N/A Honda guy for years, I haven't felt something like this. I loved it!! I was also impressed with the tranny. It had a little further throw than the S, but overall, it felt very direct.
To sum it up, I'm still looking around for the right one at a decent price. If you've thought about one and have not yet seen one in person, check out your local dealer. This thing in person is a beauty!!!
Edit:
Here is a pic of the 2 next to each other. Yeah, it's a boat

IX ftw. if you thought the X's boost gave you a rush, wait till you drive a IX with minimal bolt-on's and tune (turbo back exhaust and boost controller). the X will need to make more power to pull like the IX since it's 250lbs-ish heavier (the weight is the main turn-off for me...s-ayc is nice but 250 extra lbs is not)
The EVO X was one of those cars that did not disappoint in person, the car looks friggin awesome (minus the gawdy wing... ok maybe it isnt that bad). Considering though that this is an all new evo, new platform with new engine, and that it can somewhat hang with a car that's been developed for almost 2 decades is pretty impressive. But time will tell if this new evo can live up to the name.
