Default Am I crazy?

Thinking about trading in my 04 NFR S2K for a 2013 civic Si. My S currently has 80K on it. I am currently paying monthly for my S and pay about 400 a month for it. I feel like the dealership is raping me because I'm young and don't have the best credit. I feel like getting the SI would be cheaper. I know it would be like a down grade but I feel like it would be cheaper and also it would be newer. I have about 3 yrs left of payments on my S. I love my S but 400 is a lot of money for a almost a 10 year old car that already has 80K on it.

If your financial situation warrants it, I'd do it. It's better to get financially sound now versus waiting until later and it possibly being too late.

And, know that the new Si is not as awful as the internet trolls like to make it out to be. My S2000 is a lot of fun, and my '12 Si is pretty fun in it's own right.

Hopefully you can figure out a way to not get rid of your S2000. I have thought about doing so a couple times myself, but I just knew I'd regret it.

I feel like I would regret it big time. I do like the new SI's though. Wish the 13's had the tail lamps of a 12. Just bothers me that I still have 3 yrs of payments on a almost 10 yr old car with 80K on it. Thats the thing that really bothers me and gets to me. Wish the S was paid off but thats almost 15 G's I almost have to pay. Irks my soul.

400 a month is a lot for a 04 s2k. But why not look for a gently used 2011/2012 si and save a few thousand dollars?

Don't like the before generation like the 06-11 style. I like the 12's and up. Just feel like it would be cheaper and mostly likely better in the long run for me. In 4-5 yrs if I'm done paying off the new SI, it would only be about 5 yrs old and paid off rather than my current situation.

In your personal opinion and god honest truth, what do you like about your 12 SI and how do you compare it to your S. Is it really a big down grade? Do you feel any big difference or anything like that?

Is a SI that new really cheaper than your S2000? I don't see how it would save money.

How much per month would the Si cost you? Per Honda's website, a 2013 Si has an MSRP of $23,505 and financed over 60 months the payments would be $443.57 per month at 5% APR. A three-year lease would be $420.96 per month. How much do you still owe on the S2000? Why wouldn't the dealership just take advantage of you again with the Si? How does changing cars change how the dealership treats you?

Make your payments on time and try to refinance in a few months so you get a lower interest rate.

I would not call it a huge downgrade, but it is somewhat of a downgrade. That said, however, the driving experience from one to the other is not as different as some people might say.

By going to the Si you'd give up the fun of RWD, but it does have relatively decent steering and handling despite putting the power down through the front wheels. Good brakes, more torque off a stop light than I have felt from any other Honda 4-cylinder. It's quieter cruising at highway speeds than my wife's TSX. The shifter is fantastic. I love the technology that comes with the interior - I listen to Pandora either through blue tooth or the USB port that goes directly into the stereo on a regular basis.

The S2000? Much more nimble in the corners, while staying planted. It's prettier (Civics really aren't ever good looking from the factory), and has 9,000 RPM (or 8,300 in your case). If I want to go AutoX, I would rather have the pure sports car than an economy car with some factory changes to make it more sporty. Truth be told, I was already treating the S2000 like a garage queen - but since I got rid of my old Civic and bought my Si, I drive the S2000 even less because my DD is much more enjoyable.

The bottom line: I love both my cars equally because they fit the roles I was wanting to fill with each car perfectly. One is the weekend car that I can go blast down a two-lane in or hit an AutoX event when I feel the need. The other is a more practical setup that is still fun to use on a daily basis.

My advice would be to go drive a new Si and see what you think. You might be surprised at how much you like it. It would be hard to give up a car like the S2000, but it sounds like it might be the smartest move for you financially.
