Another New S2000 Rumor
I always giggle when I hear about the "success" of the FR-S/BRZ. There was and is pent-up demand for these cars and they are limited in production. Current sales are similar to what Honda had with their CR-Z when it was released. It remains to be seen if these vehicles will sustainably sell over the course of a year or two. We're only two months into their sale so it's hardly time to declare them a "success".
Other than fuel economy and handling through corners, I think our cars beat the BRZ/FT86/FRS in every way stock vs stock
Honda just needs to fix:
i) the damn convertible roof ripping problem
ii) revise a new F series that is fuel efficient but with more torque (or even a turbocharged engine which i doubt Honda is ever going this route)
iii) put in some new gadgets
iv) lower the center of gravity of the car a little
v) lower the car price to less than $30K
BANG! The new AP3 will be selling more than the subaru/toyota new sportscar

Toyotas extremely aggressive with marketing and advertising its product which is why this car is getting sooo much hype. I bet you if this car was strictly sold by subaru it would be kept quiet since subaru also is low key with advertising as well and not many people would be aware of this new car.. Toyota can make anything they want and their marketing will take over and sell it for them no matter what it is or how good or bad it looks. Im sure subie n toyota merged in order to advertise this car aggressively mostly as a toyota for salesstats purposes.

Half the reason we have the BRZ is that Toyota wanted to shake off its stodgy image. Frankly, Subaru had the idea and the car, but not the capital. Enter Toyota to bankroll the project, and both companies get what they want - a sporty car to fill a product lineup gap and add some shine to the brand.
Honda meanwhile, built the CR-Z originally as a sporty car and then re-engineered it mid cycle to be a mpg-focused hybrid (imo of course). Other than to the Honda faithful, it didn't sell as its largely seen as a lackluster product that does nothing well as it compromises on everything. Small as it is, that target audience for the BRZ is much larger now and will be going forward than it ever was or will be for the CR-Zzz.

Some one has video?
Lower the center of gravity? It doesn't have a roof...
Fuel efficient and torque is like saying jumbo shrimp. Electric motor?
I will also believe it when I see it. That being said, Honda does need a competitor to the FR-S/BRZ. They can do this by either making the Civic Si/CR-Z more of a contender (maybe even a Type R!) or making an AP3. I can't see the latter happening until the new NSX is released. I will be looking forward to the day they announce their new competitor to the FR-S/BRZ.
