for Evo's most will tell you the transmission...

my IX was making 320whp/320wtq with 3 bolt-on's and tune, and i never launched it, 35k miles the clutch and gears and synchro's were just like the 1st day i bought the car.

the Evo is very reliable if you take it to the right shop to get worked on, and if you maintain the car knowledgeably.

the engine is bullet proof if the tuner knows what he's doing...dont think i need to go much into this area... 4g63 has been around in various forms since the '80's in the States.

for the STi....my current car is a MY2000 2.5RS with 05 Sti swap. the vf39 seems to be prone to crack, but it's not very common. the 6psd in the STi is very stout.

for both these cars, a lot of launches = bad. except the few expert drag racers who can get hundred of passes on one clutch.

launch correctly, tune correctly (via good shops, not reputable shops; good shops), mod smartly, they are very reliable.

these are what i can rmember off the top of my head atm. it's 3am here

Thanks, so 07 Sti with 9k miles for $32000, and 06 Evo MR with 18k miles for $31000, which one would you get? Basicly I am getting this car for daily and some fun, I already have a track S, not gonna mod this car crazy. Sti has better interior for me, evo is a little cheaper(maybe just the color), but I like evo's front seats.

The 5-speed evo transmission is stout.

The clutch maybe not so much, but I think the stories are overblown by people who have a hard time driving the car.

The 6-speed tranny isn't as strong, but should be fine for DD.

For a DD check out the evo SSL. The interior is a lot nicer then the other evos.

I never had a problem w/my sti, transmission and clutch held up, motor ran as strong as the first day I bought it. Only thing you will start noticing w/the sti is that it will start to rattle (suspension I believe).
The 06 Evo that your looking @ is priced pretty high, you could get a brand new one down here @ so Cal Mitsu. for 33,000 and thats for the MR, the SE's are going for 31,999. I'd try to steer away from any sti/evo that has that much mileage on it, who knows what the previous owner did w/the car. If i had another take on it, i'd choose the evo over the sti.

IF i had to choose i would take the 5 speed evo, its a beast, most bolts put a good increase of hp and especially torque on the ride, and the torque feels so nice!!!! Thats the only other car i wanted besides the s2k.

05 and earlier have clearcoat problems with rear wing. Mitsu warranties it with full replacement.

Yeah, I'd say there's a problem with the EVO...Its a Mitsu. Take it to the track, and your done. Warranty over.

When I went to look at Sti's early this year I could have got a new one for $30k + TTL so that is a rip. 9k miles? It should be 27-28k.
