Anyone considering an Elise?
May put down deposit, told delivery would be in 12/04, they want $1000 refundable, then after a test drive in march they want $5,000 at which time it would become non-refundable once Lotus accepts the order.
I am looking to try to time delivery with the end of my lease (5/05) so I haven't put down a deposit yet.

At the moment, I'll probably take my deposit back. I can't see a $10-15K value over the S2000. There is no way I am giving $5K for a car I have yet to see or thoroughly roadtested in the US.

i would buy an elise for $30-$33k, but no more..... i think there will be lots of people hopping off the list once they come in... $40k for a little tiny car that won't even feel all that fast (no torque = no feel fast).
I am sure it would be plenty quick around a track, but......there were tons of S2000 owners who thought they were a rough, spartan ride for $33k... wait until they try the elise.

I've taken numerous laps around a track in both a Lotus Elise and a 340R. The Elise is a great car, but honestly it's completely different than the S2000 in spite of the surface similarities. The S2000 is a luxury car compared to the Elise. The interior metal of the car is exposed, the driver and the passenger knock knees, the build quality is a notch above a kit car, ingress and egress are far worse than the S2000 as well. These are drastically different cars. The S2000 may be considered 'raw' and 'hard core' by many, but there is truly no comparison between these cars. The S is an amazing performance car, but the Elise is truly a race car that is street legal. I don't think many people would enjoy driving it every day, whereas the S2000 can function as a daily driver. If you've got 40 grand for a track car or it's only going to be a weekend car then perhaps it's realistic. I wish I did have that option myself, but after spending some time in the elise, as awesome as it is I realize I could never live with it every day.
