Default Arai Silicone

I bought a new Arai helmet last summer and it came with this tiny bottle of silicone lubricant which has been sitting in my room since. Does anyone know what you use this lubricant on? Is it to lube the shield pivot posts or the release mechanism? Anyone?

It's for the shield adjustment/removal system. It just lubricates all the little plastic parts and makes the whole system less susceptible to breakage (it's pretty fragile, I've broken mine two or three times).

In 20+ years of motorcycling I have NEVER lubricated my visor mechanism.

It's used to condition the gaskets, that's it's primary use. They actually don't recommend lubricating the mechanism since that stuff can be a dust magnet and that could lead to damage of your visor mechanism.

Yeah, I had to call my Arai Dealer when I first saw it. I've owned three helmets and I bought the first one when I bought the bike so I didn't get the box. The next two I bought from the Store and it came with all this extra stuff including the Silicone. I wondered...hmmm...My Shoei came with it too and they were nice enough to include swabs.

I've been changing my shields frequently (mirror <-> clear), and recently a release-lever from one side didn't click. (thus could not unlock the shield).

So after barely taking a shield out, I put that silicon lub on the end part of shield. Now, unlock-lever is working fine.

I am not sure if the lub. is for this kind of problem, but it worked for me.
