It's not that iconic to me. The inline 4 is not a "classic" motor whatsoever.
Um, wow, that's a lol right there. You picked the one thing about the car, that absolutely is unarguably iconic; the engine. lol. You coulda said anything else, and maybe had a point.

If you think the S2000 is going to be a classic, then, that must mean the Rx-8 is going to be one too, right? Especially since the Renesis won awards and etc, has had a history of rx-7s, and other "RX" models and etc.. Well, if you think the S2K is going to be a classic, more power to you.

I still don't believe the S2K ever will be...I just can't really see it happening..

When I picked up my 00 S2000 back the day it came out in august of 1999 this is what my life was like for the first year.

1) People *running* to corners to see the car. all the time
2) People just about crashing next to me over and over trying to get next to it to see it
3) People in cross traffic at intersection doing 25 mph hanging out there passenger windows pointing and screaming "S2000" "S2000" "S2000". Constantly being asked about it at red lights from the people next to me.
4) Every gas station I went to it drew a crowd.
5) took it to the drags early September and the crowd of 500+ people stood up and gave the S2000 a standing ovation... people freaking out (I only pulled a 14.7 to ). While in line, it was surrounded by dozens of people taking pictures (first time most of them had seen it).
6) Extreme owners as seen on sites like this. Owners (like me) who have owned multiple S2000's.
7) First 3 years around here they still sold for $5K over MSRP.
8) 10 years later I still get massive attention in my new 04 S2000. People everywhere love it. A 70 year old lady in a grand Marque next to me at a light last week yelled "nice car".
9) Beautiful clean design and top of the line efficient engineering.
10) Limited production (100K units in the USA)

Do I think it will be a classic in 20+ years... Will people still strive to own an S2000 is good condition in 30 years...

whether or not the s2k will be become a classic is no matter to me. I love it for the reasons we all love it - i don't need to be reassured by people 30 years from now that I made a good decision when I bought mine. I came back from Iraq and got it, paid it off while in Afghanistan, and have been happy every time I see her.

back on topic: I don't care what they do as long as they don't use the "S" name with it. Call it whatever they want, as long as it's not S2500 / S3000 / S2800 / etc. Honda has already lost a lot of love from me by making more and more boring cars. I'm glad that they're still reliable, but more and more parts are being cheapened-out, and more models are big and boring

That sound you just heard was the screeching tires of the last few Honda-performance faithful leaving the brand for good.

As for the classic debate, I say it already is a classic. It will never be a collectible there's nothing rare or historic about them, save for a few special cars (first one, last one, maybe one signed by Shigeru Uehara, Johnny Tran's car...).

Classic is a little tougher to define, but it's a broader term, basically "classic" is in the eye of the beholder. Anything that is different, special, loved, out-of the norm, has a cult following.

The S2000 is most certainly already a classic- last year's homecoming was proof of that. Rare is the car which sees this level of enthusiasm, and 50 years from now when we drive solar-powered rocket cars on the moon we will all think back and remember these little classic sportscars very fondly.

I consider cars like FDs, Supras, 300zxs, Mr2 (non spyder), MAYBE ITR, classics, as they are all older cars that people still want in good condition. and very hard to come by, FDs and Supras being at the top of that list for sure, i very rarely see Supras around here

Do i think the S2k will be in that list in 5+ years?
Yes i do

So if that makes the s2k a classic in the tuner world, than so be it
